It Takes More than T-Shirts and Bumber Stickers…

…to lead people to Christ.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6

I have written you quite boldly on some points, as if to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. Romans 15:17-19

There is only one way to the Father and that is through His Son Jesus Christ. As Christians our job is to lead others to Christ, somehow we have strayed away from being able to make the same claim that the Apostle Paul was making in the above passage, our attempts to reach the Gentiles (unbelievers) have been based on all types of things other than fully proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Fully proclaiming is more that just talk or catchy double speak. Full proclamation is demonstrated through the combined force of words, deeds and the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Can a person be talked into making a decision for Christ…sure…just keep in mind that the person who is talked into Christianity can also be talked out of it once someone comes along with a better theology or reasoning. Our job is to make disciples for Christ, and a disciple is one who has counted the cost and accepts the call anyway.

Our T-shirts and bumper stickers are cool and all, but they should not be confused with being a “Full Proclamation of the Gospel” It’s time that we first become true disciples ourselves, and then we can see our way clear to make more disciples. Time is gettin short…Let’s wake up and smell the coffee!
