Are You A Disciple?
The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” John 1:43
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, -Matthew 28:19
Question: Are you a disciple of Christ? Have you answered His call and made the decision to Follow Him?
A disciple is a discipline or learned person, a person who not only believes in and follows the teachings of another but also helps in the spreading and support of that teaching as well. As Christians today we face several challenges that render many of us ineffective when it comes to fulfilling the mandate to “make disciples”:
Challenge #1
Being a disciple of Christ involves following and submitting to someone and something greater than yourself. The challenge is, that many people in today’s society have either been hurt or have witnessed other’s being hurt, and many of these people have decided that they are better off looking out for themselves, they place all of their hope and trust in themselves. If we want to reach them, we need to make sure that we are waving the white flag in a manner of speaking. We must begin to share the Love of God with them. Sometimes it’s okay to administer healing and take the time to build a relationship with people instead of just going straight for the jugular and smashing on them with your big Bible.
Challenge #2
We’ve separated discipline from disciple! There are way too many of us who wear the name of Christian, who are running around out of control. We have no discipline whatsoever. We do whatever we want, we are so caught up in our Christian Liberties that we don’t take the time to check and see if what we are doing is “beneficial” and helpful towards the goal of Leaders others toward Christ. The Apostle Paul said “Follow Me…as I follow the Christ. We need to be follow Christ and be disciples our selves if we want to make disciples of every nation as we have been mandated, and we must be disciplined as well there is no other way around that truth.
So back to my question I started with…Are you a disciple? Well Are you? If so are your actions leading others to become disciples as well? Think On it.
