Music Reviews
We have been wanting to get our Music Review Section up and running…however our resident review writer was moonlighting over at TrailBlazin Ministries, pumpin out reviews for them. We ain’t mad though LOL, after all One Lord One Faith One Body right. Besides they were providing a pretty good service over there at T.M. Unfortunately they are no longer providing Review service over at TrailBlazin, so with a little bit of coaxing we managed to convince our writer to keep doing the same thing…just working for us now. So the initials reviews will be in the same format as the ones at T.M., but as time goes on that will change. Our goal is not to just give an opinion as to whether or not a cd/album sounds good, or even try to weigh in as some sort of authority as to whether or not a project sounds Christian enough. Typically we listen to a project several times,
- First Impression: this is where we just listen and get a feel for the project. Our first thoughts and general information.
- A Closer Look: Here we begin to dissect and dig a little deeper, analyzing style and content.
- Da Breakdown: This time we listen even closer to the lyrical content, how does it match up with the music, are there any spiritual applications/implications or complications, we also give an overview of songs and subject matter covered in them.
- Final Thoughts: Here we give a final overall opinion of the project, things to consider when listening, favorite tracks etc.
That’s the format for now, so Enjoy!
If you are a Christian Artist and are interested in having your project reviewed, hit us up at holyridaz@gmail.com, with Music review as the subject line.
*****Music disclaimer******
**** I feel like I should add some sort of disclaimer here that is not only appropriate for Holy Hip Hop music, but any Christian music for that matter, and that disclaimer would be “Eat the Meat….and Spit Out the Bones!” In other words as you listen…hear what the holy Spirit is speaking to you, if something hits or rubs you the wrong way don’t just chalk it up to being wrong, but instead discover what is bothering you about it…if it is because there is some truth in it…then just say ouch and take it and grow from it. If it sounds un-scriptural or un-sound then get into your word and dig into it until you resolve whether it is actually wrong or does it merely put a hole in your theology or religious beliefs. Take what you can use from it and leave the rest behind…that’s easy enough right. Please keep in mind that although this music is used to reach people it still has limitations…after all it is only music. And always keep in mind that it is The Spirit of God and the Grace of God that leads and draws men unto Him…our job is merely to do our best..to give our best…and let God do the rest.
